Tom and I went through his storage unit and condensed it by getting rid of a lot of crap that wasn't needed, and then we went through my storage and did the same thing. We got rid of a lot of stuff that was either obsolete, duplicative or simply unwanted. Then we put all of my stuff in his storage unit.
We brought home stuff that we were either going to use at home or, if it couldn't be used, we were going to throw it away.
Now, the other Windbags on this blog site get their OCD disorder from somewhere. I couldn't just bring the stuff home and put it away. Most of it was kitchen stuff, so first I had to go through and empty all the cupboards and wash things that had been sitting for a while or throw them away. Before I could put anything back, I had to wipe down all the shelves. Once the inside was clean, I had to do the outides of the cupboards, and then I couldn't stop there but had to do the spice rack, the refrigerator, the floors. And yet I haven't gotten back to the office to do any work that REALLY needs to be done.
While I was washing the floor, I ran my right hand too close to the wood base of the cupboards and ran a 3/4 inch sliver of wood under my finger nail. It felt really good. It was fun pulling it out to see how much had gone in. I'd say a good 1/2 inch had gone under my nail.
Then, when I was making dinner, I picked up the new cheese grater blade to put on the food processor and when I barely touched the blade, I sliced the same finger on the other hand pretty good and it was dripping until Tom put a band-aid on it. Both fingers are throbbing pretty good right now.
The kitchen is spotless, but now it's time to get to the bedroom where everything has been piling up since Christmas.
It feels really good to have condensed our storage units and thrown away stuff. Since Tom and I got married 2 1/2 years ago, it seems that we have kept everything separate. Recently, it feels like our relationship has taken a turn away from "my family" v. "his family" and is becoming "our family", culminating in the combining and mixing of resources.
