Vacation???

The AttorneyThis is weird. I was out of my office from Friday afternoon until today. Yesterday I had a deposition in the afternoon in Los Angeles, but it only took a couple of hours. I went home after that.

So today is my first day back in the office since last Friday. I haven't taken a vacation in a long time. Well, I suppose they were "vacations" when I went to see Tom in Texas for a week here and there, but I didn't have much work at that time so it didn't matter whether I left or not.

I've been working my butt off for the last 20 years, and even though I had a lot of work to do, I took 6 days off. It felt really good, but it's difficult to get my head back into my work. I feel scattered, like I don't know what's going on.

First thing I'm going to do is get my office organized. Then I'm going to get papers filed that need to be filed. Then I'm going to figure out what's going on in all of my cases.

This is boring, but I was yelled at the other day about not posting. I have no idea what to talk about right now. I feel like everything is so uninteresting.

I think I'm going to go home and go to bed early so that I can get up at 3:00 a.m. to come back in and do more work. I stayed up drinking champagne until 1:00 a.m. and watched "Walk the Line." I love that movie. Then I stayed on the couch this morning and watched "Walk the Line" again and didn't go to work until noon.

I love Christmas. I think from now on I'm going to take the week of Christmas off. It was pretty cool not going to the office and just doing Christmas-y things.

My goal for the coming year is to buy gifts throughout the year so that it's all done by Christmas. I'm also going to buy a tree the weekend after Thanksgiving, and I'm going to have a tree decorating party on the weekend after that. And from now on, Christmas dinner is at my home. That's the new TRADITION.

Well, OCD GALORE, let's think about this. What holiday do you get?? Hmmm. I think you are going to have to pick one and make it your own.

I kind of like the idea of T coming down before Christmas and we "make do" at your place, and then she can go home in time for her kids to wake up on Christmas morning in their own home.

Then, once we get rid of her and her "brood", we settle down and have a real Christmas at my place. :-)

T, I don't get your comment. Are you talking about my panic attack when I found out that you guys were coming after all, and I said I was kind of hoping that you wouldn't be able to make it because I had so much work to do?

Well, I'm glad you came. It showed me that I could take time off from work and the work would still be there.

Although....

One of my crankiest clients is now in default because I didn't file his paperwork in time. But that would have happened anyways. I found out that the default was filed on December 11th.

Even Tom said that he had such a good Christmas that he thinks he likes Christmas again. He said he hasn't liked Christmas since he and his first wife divorced. Isn't that sad?

Tom said that after his divorce, he quit doing Christmas. I think it was too painful for him. But he has mentioned several times over the last couple of days how much he liked this Christmas.

My kids (you guys in particular) had a lot to do with it. I love you guys. I love it when we get together and there is no fighting, no one getting put out, no one fighting. Everyone is relaxed and just having a good time. It really was a very good Christmas.

We have to do this again.
