Goin' waaaay back

There's something I've been hesitating to tell you.

And it's not because I'm ashamed or embarrassed, but because, when I told Hubs, he immediately started rubbing his forehead in that agitated, why-are-you-doing-this-to-me way of his. It's the same thing he always does when I take on a project that I probably won't finish, but which will inevitably cost him a lot of money. I didn't want to cause anyone else the same kind of anxiety.

However, since this "project" doesn't require me riding my bike 20 miles a day, and won't cost Hubs more than nine bucks a month, I have come to the conclusion that letting you in on this won't actually cause you any harm. And if I don't finish it, it won't cause Hubs any harm either (whether he believes that or not).

With that being said...

A couple of weeks ago, as I was watching the Academy Awards, I got it into my head that I want to see all eighty movies to have won Best Picture.

The next day, I signed up for Netflix.

I don't know where these ideas come from or why I feel the need to do them immediately. I know Hubs would be a much happier, less stressed-out kinda guy if I would just take a chill pill and let things run their course, so to speak. But... then I wouldn't be me. (Does anyone say "chill pill" anymore?)

I've already watched four and a half movies. The half movie was All Quiet on the Western Front, which I got an hour into and then had to stop because I just couldn't take it anymore. I know it's a classic and there were a couple of significant moments, but... 5 minutes of significance compared to 55 minutes of boring doesn't quite cut it. Yes, I will eventually go back and watch the rest. Maybe.

Since then, I've seen Casablanca (loved, loved, loved it and I can't believe I've never seen it before!), It Happened One Night (loved, loved, loved this one, too!), The Broadway Melody, and An American in Paris.

I'm not going strictly in order, but I am trying to work my way up from the beginning. Can you believe the first movie to ever win Best Picture, Wings, isn't available on DVD yet? Next up is The Grand Hotel.

Don't worry, I'll keep you updated.
