Bike ride with Bicycle Club

The AttorneyLast summer, I decided I wanted to get back into bike riding. I used to like to take long rides. I had ridden to San Diego and other locations from Orange County, and I used to ride my bike to work and just about anywhere I had to go. I had a Raleigh.

My husband looked like he felt bad when I was talking about getting a bike to go bike riding, so I said, "Let's buy a tandem and we can go together!"

We bought a tandem, went riding once, and that was it.

I am in the process of selling the tandem and I recently bought an old road bike called SR Semi Pro. (I think I wrote about this previously.)

This guy ("Steve") contacted me and wrote that instead of selling my tandem, he would go riding with me. He said he used to go riding and wanted to get back into it. My husband didn't mind, and the other guy is married, too.

Then Steve wrote and said he used to ride with BCI (Bicycle Club of Irvine) and would I want to give that a try. I showed up yesterday for the ride, but Steve didn't show up.

However, I'm really glad that I went. I met some nice people, and particularly one lady who seemed close to my age. We rode for 5 hours, so by the time we were done, my front thighs hurt and my feet were numb. I also was extremely dehydrated because I forgot to take water with me. And, I was sunburned because I forgot to wear sunblock.

I'm going to do it again next Saturday. I really had fun.

After the initial ride with the group, I went with the lady I met ("Cathy"), who took me around the Newport Beach Back Bay. I had never seen the view of the back bay from where she took me. It was beautiful. I found out later that we had ridden a total of 50 miles. That's not too bad. But that's only 10 miles an hour. I'd like to get into better shape than that. Although, we did stop here and there.
