Gardening

TeeterI have decided over the last 2 weeks that I am going to turn my entire backyard into a garden. I was directed to a website called Path To Freedom. These people live in Pasadena, Ca. They live on 1/5 of an acre and grow about 6,000 pounds of produce each year. I figured, why not, I could do it. I live on the about the same amount of land they live on.

When you live with dirt as your backyard for a couple of years, it makes it real easy to talk Hubby into your crazy plan. Like Hubby said, "It's better than what we have been living with." So, the kids and I have been clearing the backyard of all weeds and trying to get the ground smoothed out a bit.

Our next major step is to find all the sprinkler heads because they have been buried under the dirt for about 2 years. When I turned on the sprinklers the other day, we found that we have a huge leak in one of the lines underground. Hubby fixed it. It only took 2 days to get him to do it too.

Today the kids and I decided it was time to start digging out the sprinklers. I turned them on. The leak still isn't fixed. Hubby is not going to be happy about this.

I did the only thing I could think of and dug out the dirt and found what is wrong. It should be an easy fix, but what do I know. See our nice hole:

This should be an interesting project. I mean, I do think that I could have started it at a different time of year. Sometimes I forget we live in the desert. Usually, by 11 am it is about 95 degrees and by 5 pm we are at 105 and up. So, my kids complain, I get mad that they are complaining and then we have lunch and go to the pool.

Good luck with the garden! I really enjoyed my garden at our last place. Unfortunately we had to move. No point in doing one here since we will be headed to Kansas in December. Some aspects of this military life suck!
