I often get excited about doing something just to try it once and never do it again, so maybe it's understandable that people are a little skeptical when I tell them I'm going to start riding my bike to work. It's okay. No hard feelings. I'm a little skeptical myself.
However, when I think about the fact that it's a means to an end to this miserable job, not to mention all the benefits I'll reap, I just can't let myself give up.
If I start riding my bike to work, I can get rid of my car.
If I can get rid of my car, I can save money each month.
If I'm saving enough money, I can cut back on my hours.
If I can cut back on my hours, I can focus on... (insert dramatic sound effects here)... photography!
If I can focus on photography, I can practice more, take classes, get better and achieve my dream. (And everyone should be allowed to at least try to achieve their dreams.)
If I can achieve the dream that is photography, I can actually spend all my time doing something I love. (Trust me, it's not this.)
And if that's not a good enough reason to start riding my bike to work, then how about the exercise? I'll be totally cut up! (Hubs hates it when I say that.) And, okay, maybe I won't be "cut" but it'll definitely be an improvement.
Plus, think of all the extra chocolate I'd probably get to eat! I would definitely have to increase my daily calorie intake if I'm riding 20 miles every day. (So, maybe I won't be cut after all. Who cares. I'd rather have chocolate.)
And, let's not forget, it's good for the environment. No, I'm not trying to be cheesy or sarcastic. I'm serious. We need to get more cars off the street, people.
So, here's the plan. Tomorrow morning, my wonderful Hubs and I are going to rise and shine early, ride our bikes from home to my hotel (make sure I don't die along the way), get Starbucks, and then hop on the bus to come home. That's right, the bus.
I didn't think of it until someone much smarter than myself mentioned it, but there's a bus route that runs straight down Harbor Boulevard from home to work. No transfers, no detours. So, if I'm ever tired, or maybe the weather isn't so great, I can hop on the bus and head home.
I used to take the bus to school when I was younger and I'm almost looking forward to doing it again. Never thought I'd say that. But the thought of having someone else chauffer me around is definitely appealing. It's good reading time.
I'm glad Hubs'll be with me for the trial run. Especially for the bus. I know I'll have no idea how to maneuver the bike rack on the front of the bus and I hate looking like a turd.
You'll be there, right, honey? Honey??

Yes, I will be there but NOT TOO early. It's my first day I don't have to wake up for work in like 14 straight days...:)
Have Fun!! I will be thinking of you while am all snuggly under my covers....
Oh wait, I have to pack up and move an entire house this weekend.
On second thought, wish I was with you!
You can do it. I did it for 5 years. It's actually fun, and the exercise is great. Hmmm. Maybe I'll take it up again and lend my assistance to the environment.
