Holy Crap

The AttorneyThis is what I started writing last night:

I am really happy right now. I finally got the martini that I have been long-deserving.

I have been up since 11:00 p.m. last night. (Remember my last post?)

This morning (between midnight and 5:00 a.m.) I worked on this big case organizing documents, so that I would be prepared for the mandatory settlement conference this afternoon at 4:00.

I headed for Riverside, only to find out (when I arrived there 15 minutes early for the hearing) that I was at the wrong court. I was supposed to be in San Bernardino. Good thing I have the Texan to help me.

At least I was on time for the Mandatory Settlement Conference in Los Angeles. I'm a bit inebriated, and let me tell you why:

At about 12:00 p.m. today, I decided that, if I drove to L.A., I might fall asleep at the wheel. So I looked up the train schedules to figure out

And that's where I stopped last night when I "fell asleep" on the couch.

The last train left the station to Santa Ana at 10:10. I was still in the mandatory settlement conference at 8:30 p.m. I thought I was going to miss out on taking the train and I would have been really disappointed because it sounded like fun to ride the train and drink martinis. When I take the train in the morning, I can't drink martinis on the way back to my office because it's too early in the day.

I had so much fun. First, because I had to wait an hour at the station, and because I was somewhat tired, I went to this little bar and had 2 martinis. This was a bad idea because by the time I got on the train, I was already somewhat inebriated and could only have 1 gin and tonic, which I couldn't even finish.

But let me tell you! I had so much fun! I tend to play devil's advocate when I'm with a bunch of people. There were four other people sitting in the club car waiting for the train to start moving so they could order drinks. I got them all talking and even though the train didn't actually start moving for an hour (I don't know why, either...we were having so much fun talking that none of us ever asked any of the porters why we were just sitting there), we got a pretty good debate going about marriage and whether it was a good idea to get married after knowing someone for only one week.

Therefore, I didn't get home until midnight. I laid on the couch with my clothes still on and went to sleep (passed out, but don't tell anyone!). I woke up at 8:30 and had just enough time to brush my teeth and grab a cup of coffee because I had to get over to Lamoreaux court for a hearing on 2 TROs and 2 OSCs that (fortunately) went off calendar because everyone is behaving themselves finally.

So, do you think it's a good idea to get married after only a week?

No, I don't. The funny thing is that there was this girl who found out that one of the guys had just gotten married after only one week. She asked if I thought that she should get married after only one week. When I said no, it wasn't a good idea, the guy who had gotten married after just one week started defending his position. I told him that he might be one of the successful few that stayed married forever, but that statistically speaking, most marriages fail.

Wait... Most marriages fail? Or most marriages that occur after only a week?

Most marriages fail.

Statistically, 50% of all marriages fail. Give or take a few. There is argument that the 50% takes into consideration people who are divorcing after their 2nd or 3rd marriages, and they have a higher likelihood of divorce, anyways.

But mainly, I was telling the guy that if you marry someone that quickly, you have a higher chance of failing than if you dated for a while.

Don't worry, though. I won't let your Hubs divorce you. I'll just flash my bar card at him and that will keep him in line.
