Fairy Boy says, "Brown is the new black!"

My gorgeous son, whose new name is Fairy Boy:






On Sunday, I went to the shoe store where my son (Travis) works to buy a new pair of shoes, which I would be able to buy with a 40% discount because my son's an employee. While I was there, my son was also trying on shoes. I happened to look at his feet and saw this:



It looked to me like he was wearing nylons, because that stripe up his foot looked like a run, but my mind rejected this concept because my son couldn't possibly be wearing nylons. So I asked him if he had gouged the side of his foot because that's the only thing my mind would accept as to why his foot appeared to be clad in nylons.

My son started laughing at me because he said that I had this distressed look on my face and my mouth was agape. He said, "Do you really think I'm a fairy or something?"

It turns out that he was wearing one of those nylon booties that shoe stores have so that you can try on the shoes, but I just didn't see him putting it on. I thought for a second that he must have forgotten that he had nylons on when he took off his shoes to try on a new pair.

My son, the fairy, said that "brown is the new black." I thought he meant that people are wearing brown shoes with black clothes. Most of my suits are black so that I can wear black shoes with them, because I don't want to worry about having a lot of different colored shoes.

So, to be in style, I bought some brown leather shoes. However, when I went to put them on, they seemed to clash with my black suit. My husband said he thought that, when the Fairy said that "brown is the new black," the Fairy meant that brown is in season, and you don't wear brown shoes with black suits but that you would have to go buy brown suits in order to wear the brown shoes.

I feel so stupid. Now I have a new pair of shoes and nothing with which to wear them.
